Who are the two sisters?" The answer is "day and night" (both words—ἡμέρα and νύξ, respectively—are feminine in Ancient Greek). This second riddle is also found in a Gascon version of the myth and could be very ancient.

Bested at last, the Sphinx then threw herself from her high rock and died;or, in some versions Oedipus killed her. An alternative version tells that she devoured herself. In both cases, Oedipus can therefore be recognized as a "liminal" or threshold figure, helping effect the transition between the old religious practices, represented by the death of the Sphinx, and the rise of the new, Olympian gods.

The riddle in popular culture Edit

In Jean Cocteau's retelling of the Oedipus legend, The Infernal Machine, the Sphinx tells Oedipus the answer to the riddle in order to kill herself so that she did not have to kill anymore, and also to make him love her. He leaves without ever thanking her for giving him the answer to the riddle. The scene ends when the Sphinx and Anubis ascend back to the heavens.

There are mythic, anthropological, psychoanalytic and parodic interpretations of the Riddle of the Sphinx, and of Oedipus's answer to it. Sigmund Freud describes "the question of where babies come from" as a riddle of the Sphinx.

After studying the stories and understanding the events of today that led to such pandemic being real , and absolutely embarrassing that everyone after the history’s and facts of good and bad that no matter who you are being who ever it is that’s actually stupid , making the mistake you know will end your life in suffering , poverty and struggle for what reason? It’s that of the riddle in what I have discovered why it even exists in history as simply being a proof of how all who lie , kill, and attempt to rule over legendary things that being law that guard the gates of thieves being prison at how stupid it is to do that same process being to trespass, invade privacy, identity theft, slander and murder by indirect infliction that it is still murder if one kills by wireless means and deception of another person that death become of a good thing no matter the story, that tragedy and murder was still your decision to cheat and doing a bad thing to me knowing that you are attacking me that I can die hat you are damaging my health by wireless emissions is as fact based on the process of technology equipment that makes communication possible that you are then responsible for knowing you are killing me with equipment that is stolen or unauthorized for you to use being illegal that you don’t stop for years after killing others that thinking you are not going to be caught or will get away with being a cyber terrorist ends in being replacement of the thing you killed to then be killed in the same loop of murder as this is how all crime and terrorism end being the essence to every thing that is bad that happens, every different crime and sickness starts and ends with this process that start as a bad intention, to then lie in attempt to become a king or beat the challenge of what seems to be told to those with ego problems in a formula of mental trickery that presents temptation for get rich quick easy scheme that still require the death of someone by causing them to commit suicide , that just being ok to kill someone is never ok, that people will always be set up to kill or die so that another person can sneak into the place that was always a jail anyway, so to let your self fall into a challenge is the failure, so to be aware of this nasty trickery at all times is the main message of the ancient story of many cultures that has a new adaptation in absolute social change that with this in my further examination is something very important that explain the logic of that in which was mystic then is now computer, that this riddle is a formula to prevent the very sad things of this story to happen, also explaining that if it does how stagnancy is achieved and a viscous loop of crime and death be the reality , so with this interpretation I lift the curse of the Sphinx from our world with this segment that is element to many the very understanding of what we say , teach, insist is how easy life can become, now let’s fix this pandemic.
